Plan the Launch & Rollout – Build the Foundations for a Successful Rollout
In this article we are going to discuss some of the best ways to successfully launch eLearning. One of the most important aspects is the planning; the training needs to be accessible, deliverable and accepted by the trainees.
Clear Expectations
As an organisation it can be of benefit to have a clear message that relates to the training. For example, is the training mandatory, does it have a specific benefit to the individual, is everyone expected to complete it? As part of the pre-launch marketing the policy can clearly explain why the eLearning is being introduced and what the expected outcomes are.
Tracking & Feedback
Perhaps the eLearning will have mandatory tests or quizzes. When considering the types of feedback there are several questions that need to be considered. For example, what type of information do you want to be gathered, who will see this information and how will it be used? Do the reports need to be presented to anyone, what data do they need to contain and where do you want to store this information?
In addition to the tracking of the trainee’s results it may be useful to have feedback about the eLearning to help with the rest of the rollout. For example, what time of the day did the trainees find it best to complete the modules, did they stay at their computer, did they use the transcript instead of the sound or did they use a headset?
Bite Size Chunks
Work with the natural structure of the organisation to create the best strategy. Trying to get everyone in an organisation in one go to complete an eLearning module can be an arduous task. If each department is targeted one by one it gives everyone a chance to get organised and means that the facilitator can manage the roll out in bite sized chunks.
Perhaps feedback from the initial marketing has indicated that some departments are more committed than others. These departments may be the best departments to start a pilot with. Once they have successfully completed the eLearning other departments can be targeted with the additional feedback and evidence.
Easy to Reach
Use the knowledge that you have gathered from an initial pilot to decide if any changes need to be made to your rollout plan. Perhaps there are trainees who don’t have time in the day to complete the training, would it be possible to allow them to complete the training out of hours or at home giving them time in lieu? Next time we will be discussing some practical ways to make the eLearning more accessible.
