Minister Launches New Councillor Training Programme

Local Government Minister Dr Brian Gibbons launched a training programme for community and town councillors on 24th July 2008. Assembly Government research into the role and functions of Community and Town Councils identified training as a key prerequisite in enabling them to meet future demands and expectations.

Launching the new training Dr Brian Gibbons said,

“Citizens and communities must be at the heart of public services delivery. Community and town councils are closer to the public than any other tier of government and we must ensure that they have the skills they need to operate effectively.

The Assembly Government has provided a £40,000 grant for this new training programme which I am delighted to say is a Made in Wales initiative from start to finish. As well as being developed here in Wales the programme has been designed and produced by the BTC Group of Llandudno.

I am confident that the excellent training programme will help local councils serve their communities more effectively.”

Ken Burton, Training Manager at One Voice Wales said,

“In a rapidly changing world training is essential for all of us, whatever our profession. Community councillors will now have access to high quality training to help them to carry out their roles effectively too.”
